Women’s access to Justice Problems and Challenges

During the past three decades of civil wars in Afghanistan,
thousands of Afghans have become deprived of their most basic human
rights. There is a plethora of examples of violations of the right to life, and
education, the right to be free from torture and humiliating treatments, the
right to peace, free speech, and participation in social, political, and
economic aspects of life. Among the many human rights concerns gender
equality looms large as many Afghan women experience violations of their
basic rights in the face of pervasive traditional customs and cultural norms
which destabilize women’s standing and legitimize violations of women’s
rights. Although there have been some noticeable achievements in
promoting women’s rights in the last few years, Afghan women still face
serious impediments in realizing their basic rights.
